China Vacation info – I can use America issued debit or credit card in China?
This article is about China vacations. You can find useful information in it if you are planning your vacation now China. As a graduate student pursuing my master Chinese in the U.S., I think I can have a better understanding of how to use the America issued debit or credit cards in China. 
Many of the travelers to have this kind of questions: I can use America issued debit or credit card (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) in China? How to get cash and make Shopping in China?
For most international travelers do not have a credit card in China. However, Visa and Mastercard credit cards accepted at most ATMs (with VISA or MasterCard logos on them) in China. You can get cash from these ATMs in China by VISA or Mastercard American. Some Chinese banks also provide this service and you can get cash (U.S. dollars or Chinese RMB) card Visa or Mastercard credit cards asking the tellers in these banks. However, the rates are a little high and will have to pay attention to this. To do your shopping with Visa or Mastercard credit cards in China, will have to find the VISA or MasterCard POS machines. Most international hotels and department stores high accept Visa and Mastercard. Technically, these two types of credit cards are accepted in China, but in most parts of China, Visa or Mastercard machines POS is not easy to find. retailers most Chinese do not have these machines POS specail, all they have is China UnionPay POS machines that Ameria not accept VISA or Mastercard issued. For Discover credit card is much more convenient to the Visa and Mastercard in China. China UnionPay is now the partner sites and made an agreement that allows holders Discover card to make purchases and get cash from ATMs in China. You can get cash at ATMs all China UnionPay Of China. (Actually, about 99% of ATMs in China are run by China UnionPay and this makes Discover credit cards acceptable for nearly all ATMs in China) and China UnionPay has 80,000 ATMs and 365,000 retail outlets in China. To obtain cash with credit cards Discover the cash machine, you must pay a fee for this service. But if you want to shop with them, is no hidden charges for purchases in China. Pretty cool, huh? I used my Discover Credit card times, many in China. Always work. Without any hidden costs even when used in small towns or villages in China. (You will to pay a 3% foreign transaction fees by Visa or Mastercard credit cards) Some Chinese cashiers do not hear this Discover credit card before you can just tell them it is a dual currency card in China UnionPay. In China, your credit card sites is the same as China UnionPay card to make purchases. Not differences were observed in all!
One good thing I can figure out how to get cash at ATMs in China is that we can use the BOA (Bank of America) debit cards to withdraw cash from ATMs free of charge in China. BOA is now the partner of the CCB (China Construction Bank) and reached an agreement allowing the Board of Auditors debit cardholders to obtain cash (Chinese RMB) free of charge at all ATMs CCB in China. No hidden charges for this service. For example, if the exchange rate is 1:7 (one USD = 7 Chinese RMB), you get 7 rmb per dollar in debit card account BOA. Although it states that the JA JA debit cards are accepted in all of the CCB ATMs, I found that does not work on ATM Some automatic BCC. Some friends of mine have cash success of the CCB ATMs in some small towns and villages of China. But sometimes in some cash Automatic BCC in Beijing and Shanghai. Maybe this is due to differences in these ATMs. CCB ATMs are new to the small Chinese cities, but is likely to meet some old ATMs in major Chinese cities like Beijing and Shanghai. Many people think that the old BCC ATMs not able to provide this type of service to the debit card of the Board of Auditors. For American Express credit card is not widely accepted in China. From what I understand, you can get money cash American Express card at the Ritz Carl Ton Starwood and international ATMs. The ATMs accept ISIC card, too. Most international hotels and high quality stores accept these credit cards in Shanghai and Beijing. But it is not as good as Visa, Mastercard or Discover in China.
If you wish to purchase online in China, the websites most Chinese do not accept the Discover credit card. I once bought something with my Chase Card Visa. But I made a 3% foreign transaction fees for it.
In short, if you are planning your trip to China, I think you can take some U.S. $ in cash. If you need some Chinese RMB, you can get cash with your debit card at most ATM BCC Board of Auditors automatic (free currency exchange). For purchases in China, the best way to shop is through one Discover credit card (no transaction fees abroad).
