Secure credit transactions: the PCI Data Security Standard
The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard is a list of rules defining a set of regulations for credit card security on the Internet. It was developed by a group of large credit card companies with to standardize the information and must be transmitted and what security features merchants and service providers to implement to bill through credit of these companies. The PCI standard came into force in 2004.
Before the PCI, all credit card companies like Visa and MasterCard have their own standards for data security. For a merchant or service provider to use a credit card company for billing, several rules were different to be complied a. This became a major hassle for companies trying to keep pace with evolving standards, as representatives from several companies credit including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB and met and formed the PCI Security Standards Council, which in turn developed the PCI Data Security Standard.
Note that the PCI standard is a government regulation – merchants and service providers can not be held legally responsible for this standard. What can happen, however, are fines and other actions related to the company in case of default. Service providers such as third representatives billing party is required to be fully compatible with standard PCI, as they are responsible for the integrity of customer transactions and their own. Traders, however, the process only its own payments and are held at different levels of compliance based on the number of transactions processed per year.
The detailed requirements of the PCI standard is comprehensive and precise. The main points are divided into twelve basic requirements, divided into six categories each requirement having several sub-requirements. The six main categories are summarized below:
Building and maintaining a secure network
Appropriate firewalls and access control measures should be implemented to protect data transmissions and protect cardholder data. supplied by vendor default passwords and other security features should not be used, as these are commonly known and often used to penetrate the systems.
Protect Cardholder Data
The amount of stored data operator should be the minimum necessary to do business For example, truncating the primary account number (PAN), when the total number is not necessary and proper disposal of data once it is no longer necessary. Maintain a Program Management Vulnerability

The software applications and systems are updated with the latest vendor supplied security patches and also guaranteed by validating data entry and measures to prevent piracy.
Implement access control measures strong
Only employees who need access to data for reasons related to the company should be allowed access, and each user must assign a unique identification. Physical access to servers where data is stored should be restricted and he says, because the hardware can be easily stolen or manipulated in danger.
Regularly monitor and Network test
All network activity should be monitored to ensure no unauthorized access occurs. If the security holes are found to be fixed immediately. Systems and processes should be tested regularly to ensure network security.
Maintaining a Security Policy Information
