0% APR Credit Cards and Balance Transfer Offers
0% APR credit cards can be used to reduce existing debt by transferring the balance a card that offers this kind of treatment. This benefits the user of the card in one of two ways:
short-term benefits:
If you are looking to reduce their credit card payments, the elimination of interest on your balance is a great way to do this. The reason for this is that credit card companies have realized they are losing significant revenues from continuing abuse of this type of offer (although the global credit crisis may also have something to do with this) and you can only stop using one of the three methods.
- Increase the transfer fees at a level that the offer does not seem attractive to those with large balances to transfer.
- Increasing the offer because of interest rates so that the losses incurred by customers to jump to other 0% APR credit cards are carried by those left behind, either:
- Reject applications of those individuals who are considered 'chasing supply. "This information is readily available when you check your credit.
As the first two options to punish loyal customers is quite obvious that the third would be the preferred option of the lender.
This does not exclude the possibility able to continue a line of credit at zero interest fully only means that your credit score may suffer a bit as a result of decline applications.
So to conclude: 0% APR credit cards are an excellent way to reduce your total debt but watch out for abuse and always check interest rates because of supply, transfer fees and any penalties that may eliminate any potential savings created by the offer.
