Human Error and Safety Information

Introduction
In this article I would like discuss the fact that computer users neglected and uneducated are the main cause of breaches of information security. Simple controls and inform users end could reduce economic losses has gone through business and home users.
Discussion
In recent years the number of viruses and worms on the Internet has increased dramatically. credit card fraud, identity theft, breaches of the information, and social engineering are occurring more and more each year. As information systems and computers continue to become increasingly complex, increases the number of human errors.
information security was primarily intended as obtaining hardware and software. But recent statistics have shown that 80% of information breaches are caused by human factors such as inadequate knowledge of information security, inadequate training, and not following safety procedures (Bean). These often overlooked threats often lead to costly financial losses for companies and individuals, including computer users. Many companies and organizations tend to focus primarily on engineering controls, while ignoring the fact that human error can easily lead to breaches of information security. Technical solutions are a direct approach and very important to control security, but these solutions do not take into account through ignorance or omission of persons using the systems. While the administrators and technicians to discuss security issues and concerns, these talks are not educate end users.
While the study of Information Technology and Computer Science in college, I worked with the student support center computer, performing tasks such as removing malicious software or network troubleshooting. After working there for several weeks I began to realize that most computer users do not even care for their safety. They just want the team and when a virus gets to the point of corrupting your operating system and make it inoperable finally seek help to return several weeks or even days later with the same problem. This attitude creates havoc for the network administrators and encourages people who make viruses.
According to a survey by AOL, there is a gap between the perceptions of users and the prevalence of actual threats on the internet. This makes many personal computer users to ignore the normal safety precautions such as anti-virus and firewall, which threatens sensitive personal and financial information (Roberts).
Not only private computer users face these problems, but companies and businesses lose millions of dollars due to security breaches and most of them are linked back to human error that there was no defense is in place to prevent. Regardless of all the money spent for most organizations and physical measures of security software are still vulnerable to some of the most basic security risks. To prevent these risks from happening we must first recognize the different types of human errors and to inform users of potential risks and how to avoid them.
Human Factors
Human error can be done in several ways.
– Carelessness
– The lack of computer knowledge
– Technical errors
Neglect may be linked to many different causes of security breaches. Like when a user enters their password on a sticky note and leave it in the keyboard, when a browser warns of a potentially harmful website and the user still can not read anyway, or when an employee fails to follow proper security policies or procedures. In a survey conducted by the Security Assistance Network, the neglect of employees is classified as number 4 for the top 10 threats to information security survey of 2010 stated:
No worries and no privileged training will remain a very serious threat to organizations in 2010. Insiders can be divided into three categories: careless and untrained employees, employees who are deceived or are victims of social engineering attacks type, and malicious employees. Securing a network and critical and sensitive data is very different for each type. The policies, procedures, training and a little technology can make a world of difference to reduce the risk of an organization of inside information by neglect (Top 10 information security threats 2010).
Another factor contributing to user error, equipment failure is common knowledge. Many computer users today only know the concepts basic use of a computer, such as, writing documents, sending emails and controlling the timeline. These users do not even know who is supposed to anti-virus software installed or how or why you want to install the updates. These users are the main target of malicious software developers. This type of omission Users can even take a team that is committed and is used to host malicious software to other computers without protection.
Not only users uneducated computer cause errors, but at some point, even the programmers make mistakes in your code that can be exploited by hackers. These errors by programmers often used by hackers to gain control of the affected application. These errors are generally found and patched, but again what that user not known to install security patches?
Application
There are many different ways in which computer users without education irresponsible and can cause information gaps, but what are some strategies that could be used to encourage end users to follow procedures adequate to ensure data confidentiality and integrity? What are some ways we can inform and encourage people to learn more about security?
An earlier study by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has shown that when one train company, one in four employees of IT in fundamentals of information assurance, is 20 percent less likely to find a security breach (Bean). This study shows that if a company spends a little more money to train employees could save money in the long term. Companies can also keep their employees up to date and more involved with current issues security.
As for personal computer users there must be drastic measures taken to better inform users and mold in the safety of users aware of the computer. This should be the responsibility of the manufacturer of the operating systems. They may be able to implement a "wizard" process first guy asks the user to current safety knowledge. Once the user's level of knowledge is known, certain safeguards could be put in place. A simple training tool may also be implemented to disseminate knowledge of the user.
If we take steps to report to and educate users end, could lead to a safer internet for everyone. The human factors of information security should be a major concern for all systems IT and regarded as equivalent to the technical aspects.
