Top 8 of suspected fraud e-commerce: How to detect fraudulent transactions credit card

When you have an online component of your business, experienced e-commerce fraud is becoming the rule rather than the exception. It's not a question of "if" this is going to happen, but "when" that's going to happen. I did some quick research and was amazed by the magnitude of the fraudulent transactions, especially given the poor state of the current U.S. economy.
My first major trade fraud case e happened last week. I was running a special promotion with my affiliates to see how this strategy of marketing the additional sales could work for me. Unfortunately I have not expect results in the way of too many sales going on in a short period of time, which made me suspicious.
After getting additional sales over the weekend, I decided to start calling people listed as purchasing a membership to my site. As suspected, none of them had heard of me or my site. In fact, my phone call to some of them was the first indication they had of their card information stolen credit. The man (I'm assuming it was some kind, based on how your affiliate account registered with me) was very careful in that he had FULL credit card for the victims of this fraud, including name, complete address, telephone number, credit card number, expiration date and credit card security code (check number).
Even if I'd address verification active, as well as credit card verification security code enabled in the configuration of my gateway online payment, this served me nothing. My merchant account provider informed me that when the thief has the complete information, there is nothing essentially a merchant can do to prevent fraud. Setting the address verification, at most, can block legitimate sales, especially when sales are outside the U.S. This leaves many online merchants on the horns of a dilemma.
One advantage of this situation is that I do not ship products physicals, but it was the sale of virtual items such as e-books and Members of the site. I've heard horror stories of traders losing tens of thousands of dollars in goods sent to a fraudulent account. My goal in this scam thief was in the collection of affiliate commissions. I was hoping that I get paid affiliate commissions on their "sales" before discovering that this was fraudulent sales. Fortunately, I did not fall into that as I had been out even a larger amount of money that I already am.
The second advantage in this situation is that my thief was not bright enough to enter false numbers. Since that generously gave me the telephone numbers right of the other victims of this scam, I could contact them and let them know what was happening. Otherwise, I would have had to resort to direct advertising reach them if I was not able to find a phone number for information.
So, what were the indicators that these transactions could not be valid? These are the eight tracks that I warned of the possibility of fraud in electronic commerce:
1. Emails do not seem to name buyer. I need an email address for a purchase. In most cases, e-mail addresses of the buyer, is similar to part your name or business name. In my case, none of the emails reflected the recent purchases, the buyer. One or two that could be considered a rarity – 5 or 6 in a row made me very suspicious. In this case, all e-mails were valid, as the thief decided in my e-mail marketing system with each direction e-mail. However, there were valid email addresses of the persons whose names appeared in the accounts.
2. Sales are exclusive an affiliate. In this campaign, all my sales are linked to an affiliate. I guess I thought I would have other sales, too, and mix with others covertly. However, he realized that it was my membership drive first, so its sales stood out like a sore thumb.
3. Sales are all one gender. In general, I have more women members than men. All I was doing sales last week were men. Again, one or two is expected, consecutively but not multiple. I'm assuming my thief stole information from the card of a company whose clients are exclusively male.
4. Very many sales for a given product in a very short period of time. I know the pattern of sales from my site. General sales drip unless you make a campaign special promotion to encourage purchase. Of course, I was doing a special promotion at the moment, but selling the membership in the year I did in a short period of time was unusual, as most people choose to purchase the monthly membership option when they join.
5. Transactions occur from the same IP address. Fortunately, my merchant account provider and supplier of online payment gateway to capture the IP (web) addresses from which purchases made. When I walked into my merchant account, I quickly realized that each day's operations were all from the same IP address. The address IP changed the day, however, so this will not be a valuable tool to track the thief. However, I still had my web host is blocking access to my site from these IP addresses as an extra precaution.
6. Too many transactions decreased a little time. Normally, if someone tries to join my site and your transaction is rejected is not receiving any notification of this. I'm not sure I can change this reality, but I'm certainly more motivated to login now regularly on my merchant account to verify my number of transactions declined. If I had been doing this regularly, I would realized the fraud that was taking place on my site much sooner.
7. Affiliate is in another country. Some countries have a reputation for being a greenhouse for online fraud. As I checked my affiliate information provided in your affiliate account, your address list did not seem quite right, and he itself appears as a resident of a country close to those known online fraud. This added to my growing list of suspicions.
8. Great articles Price. The sales made were always my highest price item. As mentioned earlier, this pattern of sales is unusual for me, so let me know, too. My thief apparently wanted to earn the most amount of sales in the shortest period of time repeatedly "buy" my article higher price.
I'm still sorting out this mess. Because cardholders have canceled all their cards, I am unable to return the money from the fraudulent sales. I'm working with them and their credit card companies to try and rectify the situation from my back end and prevent unpleasant burden to be sent to my account (Many of them puts her at risk merchant account, and then appear to be an unreliable business.) My merchant account provider also encouraged me to provide all the information I have on this scam to the Internet Crime Center demand.
If your Spidey sense is triggered by unusual sales activity in your website do not hesitate to take a look. At best, if your suspicions are unfounded, you will make a personal connection with customers and they know that you are diligent and care you. At worst, he'll take this scam in the bud before it gets out of control.
