Checkmate: India is prepared to combat rising credit card defaults
In a recent development against rising defaults on credit cards the Indian government has introduced a revolutionary step. With its new policy of PIN, bankers and other institutions are preparing for increased security for users who check fraudulent activities.
From August 1, all online shoppers who love to spend through credit cards now have to provide additional PIN such as greater security before making any purchase. Therefore, you have to remember the ID number (PIN) and password of your credit or debit card, otherwise forget about using them.
The new PIN or password may be called as a second level of security before the completion of the transaction so that even if someone takes note of your card number can not misuse it to shop online. When a person enters their credit card at the merchant's website, you will be redirected to the website of the bank conducting the transaction, which has to write the PIN.
Earlier this year, the Reserve Bank of India had announced an additional step authentication code Verified by Visa or MSC (MasterCard Secure Code) mandatory for all credit card holders. This PIN number is also the information is there on the card such as name, card number, expiration date and CVV (card value verification) number.
The latest effort stems from the government with technology and PIN EMV underlying credit operations of the United Kingdom in the chip card debit. EMV technology represents Europay, MasterCard and Visa, the three groups of payment originally developed the standard.
PIN Politics: the bankers Overload
A complete additional authentication requests, banks were loaded with thousands of requests and few users can set passwords on their websites. Some institutions sent fresh user IDs and passwords to customers by mail.
Some Private banks like Citibank allowed its customers to use net banking password as your password for e-commerce transactions. Furthermore, ICICI Bank has provided 6-digit PIN with a personal assurance message (PAM), a type of message and is only known to customers.
The public largest banking sector, State Bank of India said it has accommodated the change necessary, as all debit cards are PIN based, so may not require another layer of security. Only the customers have to request the PIN for credit cards.
Benefits of the new PIN Policy

5. With the new ID cards PIN, holders can access the new government and private services online using the PIN to verify their identity.
PIN ID cards: Not a strong idea
1. It cost the treasury about $ 5 billion project to provide additional chip and PIN capabilities for the current identification card.
2. In addition, there are doubts about the practical benefits PIN number.
3. Analysts predict that the system was also vulnerable, PIN numbers being spied on in public and criminals to steal hack card transaction terminals and PIN details. This means that the PIN functionality could open new avenues for identity fraudsters.
