Protect yourself against credit card offers in the mail
About two weeks ago when I was preparing the last details for the seminar of the week Last I realized I was missing something. I would need at least 10 different credit cards offers for use in one of the activities of the workshop. My usual practice of grinding credit card offers came in the mail is going to have to stop a little. I decided I should ask my neighbors to save the offers they received in their mailboxes e-mail that I had enough. Well, I should not have worried. In the next three days I have received over 20 bids from 7 different cards! That was appropriate … but a little excessive.
At that moment I decided to "Opt Out." Did you know that there is a national toll-free telephone number established by the consumer credit agencies so you can opt out of receiving these emails? Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688). The recording will ask for your social number insurance, the full name, address and telephone number. If you select the option of two years, its application can be completed with just a phone call. If you select the permanent option, the application shall only take place after you return the form mailed.
If you are concerned about leave your social security number when you call, remember, the credit card company probably already has received from the credit bureaus when bought their credit information.
There are other numbers to call to opt for other types of advertisements. You can call 1-800-464-7655 Company Polk and ask for the Opt Out line. Experian has compiled a database of lists, you can call 1-800-228-4571, ext. 4633 – just be prepared to wait through a long list of options to get you want. Val-Pak number is 1-800-661-0959, and Money Mailer is 714-265-4100. Because users are printed well in advance, be prepared to receive several more before the Opt Out enters into force.
As a last resort – or maybe your first – can be a number, email, address or website listed on the receiving mailers can contact directly to Opt. Reply with something like … "Please remove my name of database marketing. Also, please pass my name to others through e-mail list sales or trades. Thank you for your cooperation. "Most mail clients will make an effort to comply with your request.
So save a few trees and reduce the amount of spam you receive (about 50 pounds a year!) by contacting the above numbers.
What does that have to do with clean credit? How about … fewer temptations that you have to try to stay within your budget, the better!
